One day in 1974, a young bank officer named Inder Dan Ratnu stopped to purchase some peanuts from a vendor in the streets of Rajkot in the Gujarat province of India. To his amazement, he noticed that the vendor was using a paperback copy of Sir Winston Churchill's war speeches to wrap his wares. He salvaged the speeches, memorized them, and began reciting them in public. Since then Ratnu has delivered hundreds of lectures at schools, colleges, civic meetings, and private gatherings.

Inder Dan Ratnu is perhaps the only Indian scholar writing and lecturing about Sir Winston Churchill at present. He has written two books on Churchill: Alternative to Churchill: The Eternal Bondage (1995) and Layman's Questions About Churchill (1998). Ratnu is also the only Indian author currently writing about American politics. The Ultimate Defense (2001) is a science fiction/alternate history treatment of the Clinton-Lewinsky scandal which he wrote during the scandal in attempt to convince President Clinton to come clean with Congress and the American people about his behavior. His latest book, First Lady President, features a fictional character based on Senator Hillary Clinton who opposes an ex-general and Secretary of State, a wealthy and powerful political dynasty, and history in her quest for the U.S. presidency.
